• Mahogany Teakwood Intense: 127 reviews, rated 4.7. The most-reviewed by a wide margin.
• Eucalyptus Spearmint: 48 reviews, rated 4.4. The name suggests mint and eucalyptus.
• Coconut Piña Colada: 43 reviews, rated 4.7. The name suggests coconut and pineapple.
• Kitchen Lemon: 43 reviews, rated 4.3. The name points to lemon and the kitchen.
• Lakeside Morning: 37 reviews, rated 4.8. The highest-rated of these five.

Among single-wick candles, Lavender Vanilla had 22 reviews at 4.6.

A frank opinion: the 3-wick Caramel & Oud scored only 3.0 from 21 reviews. Anyone shopping for oud in an American catalogue should pause at that number before buying on the name alone; in my view, Gulf taste in oud does not always survive the trip into Western candles.

Burning and extinguishing safely

• Keep candles at least 12 inches (about 30 cm) away from anything that can burn, such as curtains, tissues and furniture.
• Blow out all candles before you leave the room or go to sleep.
• Set them on a sturdy surface that will not shift.

• Do not burn a candle all the way down; put it out before the flame nears the container.
• NFPA also suggests flameless candles as a safer option.

From us: keep candles away from air-conditioner vents and fans, since moving air makes the flame flicker and the wax burn on one side.
