Is NEOM Open to Visitors? The Actual Status in 2026

What has actually opened from the NEOM project, and what's still under construction or scaled back? The status of Sindalah, The Line, Trojena, and Oxagon, based on facts, not marketing.

Many sites publish "travel guides" about NEOM as if it were an open destination today. This article examines the facts instead of repeating the marketing material — and what we found is worth stating plainly.

Sindalah: ceremonially opened, but not open to the public

Sindalah's opening ceremony — the luxury island within NEOM — was held in October 2024. But according to the latest available information, the island remained limited-access or invite-only, and its full operational status for the general public had not been confirmed as of 2025 (source: Wikipedia). A ceremonial opening doesn't mean you can book a trip there today like any regular hotel.

The Line: a substantial scale-back from the announced plan

NEOM's most media-famous project — the vertical linear city — saw a scale-back or partial stall by 2025 according to reports. As of July 2022, only two buildings had been completed, and most of the project's footprint remained empty desert. There's no indication of it receiving tourist visitors.

Trojena: lost its Winter Games hosting bid

Trojena was announced in March 2022 as an ambitious mountain ski resort. But its plans were scaled back, and in 2026 Kazakhstan replaced NEOM as host of the 2029 Asian Winter Games — the clearest evidence that the original timeline no longer holds.

Oxagon and other components: no announced operational status

Oxagon (a floating industrial complex, announced November 2021) and other zones like Aquellum, Leyja, and Elanan (announced between 2023-2024) carry no announced construction or operational indicators so far, based on available sources.

The bigger picture

By 2025, new NEOM contracts had stalled, and the project went unmentioned in Saudi Arabia's preliminary 2026 budget statement — a clear signal of scope reduction compared to its initially ambitious announcements.

The practical takeaway

If you're planning an actual tourist trip right now, NEOM isn't an available option in the traditional sense — no public hotel booking, no announced visitor pathway for the general public. Follow official news if the situation changes in the future, but don't build a travel plan on promotional promises that haven't materialized yet.

الأسئلة الشائعة

There's currently no known public tourism booking pathway for any part of NEOM. Sindalah island, the component closest to hosting visitors, has remained limited-access or invite-only and has not opened to the general public as of our last available update.

Because that would imply a tourism destination ready to receive visitors, which isn't accurate based on the facts available so far. We prefer an honest article about the actual status over a marketing piece built on unfulfilled promises.
