Free QR Code Generator: Link, Wi-Fi or WhatsApp
Generate a QR code for a link, text, Wi-Fi network or WhatsApp message in your browser with no sign-up, and download it as PNG or SVG. Formats and error-correction levels explained.
A static QR code carries your link inside its own squares. That is its strength and the source of its easiest mistake: you print a thousand cards, then find a typo in the link, and nothing printed can be edited. So test the code with your phone camera before printing, and check that the link opens the right page.
The generator below is static: no account, no sign-up, it runs in your browser, and the resulting code passes through no middleman server and tracks nobody who scans it.
What each type carries
| Type | What is written into the code | What happens on scan |
|---|---|---|
| Link or text | The text as you typed it | Opens the link or shows the text |
| Wi-Fi network | WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;; | Offers to join the network |
| WhatsApp message | A wa.me link with the number and text | Opens a chat with the number and a prefilled message |
The Wi-Fi format is the de-facto one documented on the ZXing wiki: field T for the security type (WPA, WEP, or nopass for an open network), S for the name, P for the password, and an optional H for a hidden network. The special characters \, ;, ,, " and : are escaped with a backslash.
For WhatsApp, its Help Center requires a link shaped wa.me/number, with the number in full international format and no zeros, brackets or dashes, plus a prefilled message in the text parameter, URL-encoded. That is what the tool builds for you.
Error-correction level
A QR code stores redundant data so it can still be read when part of it is damaged. The standard defines four levels:
| Level | Recovery rate | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| L | 7% | Clean screen, and you want the smallest code |
| M | 15% | Normal use (the tool's default) |
| Q | 25% | Printed material exposed to wear |
| H | 30% | Putting a logo over the code, or a damaged surface |
The price is that each higher level makes the squares denser, which makes a small code harder for a camera to read. Do not pick H automatically.
Before you print or publish
- Colours. A dark code on a light background. The tool warns you if the contrast is weak or the code is inverted.
- Testing. Scan the code with your phone from the real distance it will be read from, and with at least two different devices.
- Size. Download SVG for large prints since it stays sharp when enlarged, and PNG for screens.
Mind what you publish
A Wi-Fi code hands the password to anyone who photographs it. If you will hang it in a public place, set up a separate guest network rather than using your main one.
A WhatsApp code publishes your number. Everyone who scans it sees your number, so do not put it on public material if the number is personal.
Unknown links. Do not scan a code you found in a public place without looking at the link your phone will open before you tap it.
It is not the e-invoice QR code
A tax invoice carries a special signed code generated by the approved invoicing system, and this is a general-purpose generator that issues no invoices. For details: e-invoicing and VAT guide.

الأسئلة الشائعة
No. The code is static: the data itself is written into its squares, so it depends on no middleman site, account or subscription. The flip side is that it cannot be edited after printing: if the link changes you need a new code.
No. The code is generated in your browser by a library running locally; what you type never leaves your device.
It carries text in the form WIFI:T:security;S:network name;P:password;; that a phone camera reads and offers to join the network. Special characters in the name and password are escaped with a backslash, which the tool does automatically.
In full international format, digits only, with no +, leading zeros or dashes, as WhatsApp requires. A Saudi number such as 05XXXXXXXX is converted by the tool to 9665XXXXXXXX.
M (15%) suits normal use. Pick Q or H if you will print on a surface exposed to wear or put a logo over the code, keeping in mind that a higher level makes the code denser and harder to read at small sizes.
No. A tax invoice's QR is a signed structure generated by the invoicing system approved by ZATCA, and this tool is no substitute. This is a general-purpose generator.
